A short biography
Born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1937, settled in São Pauto, Brazil in 1949. Naturalized Brazilian. Practiced piano with F.J. Conserino and V. Del Nero Gomes. Learned Music Perception with Souza Lima, Harmony, Analysis and Counterpoint with Osvaldo Lacerda. Conducting with E. Csammer and Diogo Pacheco. Composition with Camargo Guamieri. A graduate in Composition and Conducting from Saint Marcelina Faculty of Music and Master in Arts by ECA/ÚSP. Has founded the Association of Music and Composition of the State of São Paulo; President to the Pro-Brazilian Music Society. Organizer of several choruses: Association of Public Officers of the State of São Paulo, Ars Cantorum Group, besides the following orchestras: ACM, Osvaldo Cruz, Folkloriana and Grupo Pesquisa (Research Group). Invited by maestro Eleazar de Carvalho, has conducted the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra presenting his own compositions. Has researched the folklore in the Ribeira Valley in the State of São Paulo for the Museu da Imagem e do Som (The sound and immage museum) , between 1973 and 1974. Has done several folklore researches in Carapicuiba, Itapecerica da Serra and the Tietê Paulista, besides the Vale do Ribeira, South Minas Gerais and the Canudos area in Bahia. In 1974 inaugurated the A. Bloch Theater (Manchete, Rio de Janeiro) as director of the play The Man of La Mancha. Maestro for the Eldorado Studio in São Paulo. Helper for the TV program, Folclore do Brasil for Public TV. .Over 250 articles on Classical Music written for the Folha da Tarde Newspaper in São Paulo. Founder, Writer and Director of the Correio Musical monthly newspaper; member and president afterwards of the Folklore State Comission at the Culture Affairs of the State of São Paulo. Treasurer for the APCA (Paulista Association of Arts Critics); has created the project Folc-video at the referred Culture Affairs. Member of the Commitee to choose the Anthem for the city of ltu (state of São Paulo); member of the Instituto de Estudos de Folclore and Member of the Ordem Nacional dos Bandeirantes. At present, once again a member of the Commitee as referred above, that is the Folklore State Comission. Belongs to two Academies: The Paulista Academy of History and the Paulista Academy of Music ( Desk n. 13) - whose patron is André da Silva Gomes. Has received among others, the following prizes and titles: João de Barro trophy (Rev. Laqui); Madrigalist (Madrigal Renascentista from Belo Horizonte -state of Minas Gerais). The Guassu Piteri trophy from the Osasco Town Hall. Comissão Estadual de Música Prize 1968, APCA as best Symphonic Work in 1990.Teacher of folklore at several Conservatories and Faculties. Has taught in São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Has given speaches in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Bahia and several times at Arts Institutes in Buenos Aires and at the Brazilian Embassy. At present, is a Professor at the Instituto de Artes da UNESP (Course on Composition and Conducting - subjects: Composition, Harmony and Fugue). Books: Methodology in the Folklore Reasearch (EUDESP,1980), The Santa Cruz Party at the Carapicuiba Village (Silvio Romero Prize, 1974 - MEC/Secretary of Culture, that is, Culture Affairs of SP), The Cururu Music at the Mid -Tietê Paulista(country-state) – ECA/USP,1987.
